The award-winning makers of The Dog House and the BAFTA-winning producer of First Dates want five to eight-year-olds to apply for a BBC series about children struggling to make friends.

The producers aim to cast local kids in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield for the upcoming programme exploring the world of childhood friendships.

The show, Will You Be My Friend?, will follow children who find it hard to make social connections.

It will spotlight a variety of social struggles, ranging from shyness to an inability to fit in.

The series is rooted around The Friendship Centre.

Here, a specialised team of psychologists will work with the selected children on building social confidence and skills.

Then, the children will be matched on a friendly playdate with someone from the local area.

Six weeks later, they revisit them at home to see how that new-found confidence is helping at school, in the playground and beyond.
