A popular pub in Codicote has closed due to "lack of support from the village".
The Globe in Codicote High Street, owned by Hertford-based brewery McMullen's since 1883, shut on Sunday, November 2.
In a post on Facebook, 35-year hospitality veteran Russell Holmes, who took over management in March 2024, said the pub's decline is due to a lack of support from the village, with people not using their local enough to allow it to survive.
The Globe is highly regarded, with a Tripadvisor score of 4.4 out of five, and 29 of its 45 reviews on the site rating it "excellent".

But "the truth is", Russell's post continued, "if you don’t use it, you lose it. Simple as that".
The news comes at a time of uncertainty for the wider industry.
Last month, the Welwyn Hatfield Times spoke to James Bainbridge who owns and operates The White Hart in Welwyn and The Tilbury in Datchworth with his brother, Tom.
The 38-year-old told of how skyrocketing operating costs, the cost of living crisis, and continued increases to minimum wage have left his businesses with increased costs of "about £80,000 a year".
James called for VAT to be reduced for businesses in the hospitality sector, and warned of "danger on the horizon" if nothing changes.
