Pupils from five schools competed in the first-ever Welwyn Hatfield Consortium Rounders Tournament.

The schools involved were Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School, Monk's Walk, Stanborough School, Ridgeway Academy and Onslow St Audrey's.

Monk's Walk came in first place with Ridgeway Academy in second, and all the pupils celebrated with ice lollies and sweets - while the winners received the coveted Consortium Cup.

PE teachers Mrs Sobota, Miss Steadman and Mr Mayes from Monk's Walk acted as umpires, with Mr Haseler and Miss Chilton organising the event.

The pupils in the Monk's Walk team were Vikrant C, Laura F, Izzy M, Ellie L, Ellis D, James P, James K, Jack B, Charlotte C, Matthew L, Joel P, James U, Willow T, Isaac B and Rhys S.

Students Aled, Edward, Archie, George and James were praised for "gallantly stepping up" to fill the spaces on other schools' teams.

Next year the schools are hosting a Consortium University Challenge, with another sporting event yet to be announced.
