Hickathrift House care home relative and resident ambassador

Firstly, the daughter of Hickathrift House care home resident has been given a new role at the home to help support the families of other residents.

Viv's mother, Joan, joined the home in 2023 and, ever since, Viv has become part of the Hickathrift House family, helping residents, relatives, and staff.

This new role is to help other families considering care options as well as those whose loved ones are living there.

Viv, relative’s ambassador, said: "I'm a very passionate, caring person and I am always happy to help anyone.

"I like joining in the activities with mum and the other residents and chatting to new relatives about my experience at Hickathrift."

Hickathrift House also announced the re-election of resident ambassador Barrie for the third year in a row.

Soon after quickly settled in, in December 2021, Barrie was elected resident ambassador by other residents.

Every year since, Barrie continues to be re-elected as Hickathrift's resident ambassador and continues to implement new ways to support current and future residents in both communities.

Barrie not only hosts our monthly residents' meeting alongside general manager Paula, but arranges one-to-one chats with residents, provides a residents’ perspective on show rounds, welcomes new residents, visitors and companies who visit. 

He also delivers speeches at large events and helps deliver weekly planners on Sundays.

Barrie, resident ambassador of Hickathrift House, said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting and advocating on behalf of the residents at Hickathrift House.

"I believe I have a great relationship with the amazing staff and lovely residents and I'm always happy to lend a friendly ear."

Paula Colman, general manager of Hickathrift House, said: “We are privileged to have Viv and Barrie be part of the team and help provide a relative's and residents’ perspective, support new residents and their relatives and a friendly ear if anyone needs it.”
