North Herts Council has made no objection to outline plans for a 150-home development in Woolmer Green.

The application would see properties, including "affordable housing", created on land off London Road.

Public open space, landscaping, a sustainable drainage system and an access point for vehicles are all included in the plans.

A design and access statement included within the plans describes the "creation of a high quality, sustainable new neighbourhood that integrates successfully with the existing urban fabric, forming a logical extension to Woolmer Green and a sensitive transition to the countryside beyond."

The statement also describes "a place that is accessible to everyone, which makes everyone feel comfortable, safe and secure, and a place where people want to live.

"To promote active lifestyles and a sense of wellbeing through the provision of new public open space, recreational routes, community orchard and a new children's play area."

The application can be viewed by using reference 24/00150/ADJ on the North Herts Council planning portal.

No comments or objections have been made to these plans.

A second application, made to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, has been delegated to the senior planning officer.

A total of 41 public comments and objections were made to this application, with a resident of Mayshades Close writing: "Woolmer Green is becoming very heavily built upon which is damaging for the environment and local people.

"The road behind the proposed site (New Road) is prone to heavy flooding and this will only be exacerbated by further building.

"There is not adequate infrastructure to accommodate this development. London Road is already a very busy and congested road."

Another resident, of Garden Road, commented: "As a new resident to Woolmer Green I am deeply saddened at this planning application.

"We moved here as we loved how quiet the village is and how close to the countryside. I am very concerned at how this development will affect the local area and the roads.

"I don't believe the local Infrastructure can support such a large development.

"Our back garden backs onto where the proposed development is. We have been delighted to see how many birds and how much wildlife we have in our garden vs where we used to live in Welwyn Garden City.

"I am concerned for the local wildlife if this development goes ahead."
