Potters Bar Theatre Company presents 'Nunsense' at the town's theatre this month.

You can see the musical comedy in the Wyllyotts Theatre's Studio from Wednesday, April 17 to Saturday, April 20.

PBTC's next production is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns, the Little Sisters of Hoboken, trying to manage a fundraiser.

Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia.

Originating as a line of greeting cards, the concept of 'Nunsense' was expanded into a cabaret show that ran for 38 weeks and eventually turned into a full-length musical.

The remaining nuns — ballet-loving Sister Mary Leo, street-wise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert — stage a talent show in order to raise the money needed to bury their four remaining dearly departed, before the Board of Health realise they are on ice!

With catchy songs such as ‘We’ve got to clean out the freezer’, ‘Tackle that temptation’, ‘Holier than thou’ and irreverent comedy, Nunsense is sure to keep audiences rolling with laughter.

Director Sami Underwood said: “This show is an absolute blast. Every character has their own personality and foibles which makes this group of women a joy to watch.

"There is a lot of clever word play by author, Dan Goggins, with every nun joke imaginable and although a little close to the mark in some places (which is to be expected in a musical about nuns and food poisoning!), it enhances the comedic and light-hearted event it was intended to be."

Potters Bar Theatre Company hopes audiences will join them for this humorous musical packed full of entertainment including a cookery class, audience participation, a ventriloquist puppet and even tap dancing — there is something for everyone!
