I am the cutest, cuddliest, football-loving terrier cross you will ever meet. Fun, sweet, gentle, enthusiastic and just longing to be in your life.

This is my opportunity to convince you I am the one for you, so here goes.

My five years of life have been quite a roller coaster and pretty tough and sad for me. I try to forget those early years, where I was mostly kept locked in a crate - can you imagine being imprisoned like that?

So when I was rescued and came to live a Southridge, I was in a bit of a state emotionally and found being in open spaces scary and overwhelming, and while I enjoyed the fresh air, I often just wanted to return to my kennel, where I felt safe.

Welwyn Hatfield Times: Maggie Mae

Not any more! Thanks to the patience, kindness and understanding I was given at Southridge I gradually learned that the great outdoors is fab, and even more fantastic is a football and a tennis ball.

Yes I learned to play and discovered my skills as a first class ball chaser and returner. If only there was a doggie Olympics, I'd definitely be in for a chance at the Gold.

So now I was ready to go to my forever home, and when I did my life was complete. Loved, cherished and safe I thrived and my confidence grew with my wonderful people, who I know would have kept me all my life. But sadly through unforeseen circumstances, they were forced to return me to Southridge.

So despite this sad setback in my life, gone is the scared and confused Maggie. I have learned how much I absolutely love people, and can't wait to give kisses and receive cuddles when staff and volunteers come to visit and take me out.

I love treats too, and while I am keen to learn new skills and am very smart and eager, secretly I feel I am pretty perfect as I am.

I do need a secure fenced garden, prefer to be the only pet in an adult home, and require a warm comfy sofa and a person to snuggle with!

Unfortunately I do have a medical condition which is currently well controlled, but requires me to have a special prescription food diet. Staff at Southridge can explain this more, but please, don't let this put you off.

So to sum up, eagerly waiting with my bags packed is a wonderful Maggie Mae, who will put a smile on your face and give you a warm glow in your heart.

Please come and meet me and bring me home, and as Rod Stewart says, 'Wake Up (with) Maggie'!
