Unsung heroes in Welwyn Hatfield were celebrated during an awards ceremony held by the council last week.
Held at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City, the awards recognised inspirational residents, sports clubs, and community organisations.
Nominations were made by residents and clubs, with winners decided by panels of judges, including council officers and local community leaders.
The ceremony was opened by the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Pankit Shah, and saw a performance by North Star Academy.
Cllr Pankit Shah said: "I was proud to open the first ever One Welwyn Hatfield Community Awards.
"We have some amazing residents and organisations in our Borough who all contribute to improving the lives of other residents in their communities.
"I would like to thank the officers at WHBC who made the Awards Ceremony happen and I would also like to thank all of our sponsors who have given so generously."
In total, 13 awards were handed out.
Among the winners were Angela Gaughan, who received the Mayor’s Civic Award, Misya Meze Grill recognised with the Welwyn Hatfield Award for All, and the Public Service Hero award went to Kerry Ellis, Danny Liversidge, and Tristian Morrison from Herts police.
Ashley Owens, who won the Inspirational Young Person of the Year Award, raised more than £29,000 to aid abandoned dogs by camping out for 1,000 nights.
Councillor Paul Zukowskyj, leader of WHBC, said: "I was delighted to attend the first ever Welwyn Hatfield Community Awards Ceremony and hear about the wonderful achievements and contributions that our residents, young people and local businesses and organisations make to our communities.
"We are very lucky to have so many amazing individuals in Welwyn Hatfield. Many congratulations to all of the nominees and winners.
"I would like to thank every one of them all for the fantastic work that they are doing in our Borough."
The event was sponsored by multiple local businesses and organisations like BETTER, Continental Landscapes, Graceland Complete Maintenance Services Ltd, ICS.AI, Jadu, Liberata, Oaklands College, the Royal Veterinary College, the Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund, and Urbaser.
