When I was nine days old, along with my mum, I was rescued by RSPCA inspectors and taken from poor living conditions into the safety of their care.

Since then, apart from a short time as a pup in a foster home, I have spent my entire four plus years of life in kennels - over 30 years in human terms!

I have heard staff say I am the longest resident at Southridge - this makes me so sad.

I have seen hundreds of animals come and go on to happy homes, while I am continually overlooked and left disappointed. I am starting to feel I will be here forever!

As a Dutch Shepherd I am not your typical pet dog. I have an alert, keen intelligence and a sharp mind - members of my breed were originally herding dogs.

Now we excel in police, military service and search and rescue. I was bred to work and like to keep busy both physically and mentally.

You get the picture, I don't want to be the pet left at home, I want to be your 'partner in life'.

I have a longing to learn, and once I have built up a bond with you, will reward you with the wonders of my abilities and a fierce loyalty.

Welwyn Hatfield Times: Mia

Staff at Southridge take me walking every day and my favourite time is a run in the big compound.

I can get a bit overexcited and a little anxious when I see other dogs, so while in public areas I am used to wearing a muzzle, although my manners with other dogs has improved.

After my athletics, I love practicing mind-exercises, sits, stays, downs, waits and seeking hidden treats. I know I would be great at agility too.

I do have a few requirements:

  • An adult only home (no children visiting).
  • A secure garden large enough for me to play and explore.
  • No other animals in the home.
  • A quiet area to myself where I can switch off and relax.
  • My special person should be experienced with dogs, ideally have an interest in dog behaviour and training and have the time and dedication to devote to my wellbeing and learning.

The Friends of Southridge will offer support with my training costs.

So if you think we are made for each other, why don't you pick up the phone or send that email to Southridge right now!

Please, please end my long wait for a home at last.
