A teacher at a school in Hatfield has been nominated for a prestigious Royal Society of Biology award.
Dr Ali Bune, subject leader for biology and whole school literacy coordinator at Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School, is one of three people shortlisted for the Biology Teacher of the Year award.
"I am deeply honoured to be shortlisted for this award," she said.
"It’s thanks to my school’s supportive ethos and our students’ willingness to engage in all things biology."
Among the work that got Dr Bune nominated was her celebration of Biology Week through a circus activity called Plague, Pox & Pathogens, where she encouraged colleagues to get into character by dressing as the plague doctor or a milkmaid, with others moved around classes as characters, demonstrating aspects of disease related to the history of disease control.
Thandiwe Banda of the Cheam High School in London, and Christina Little of The Mosslands School on Merseyside are also up for the award.
