A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Welwyn Garden City on Monday (February 26).

At around 7.15pm, a man sustained stab wounds to his arm and chest after being attacked in Hall Grove.

He suffered serious injuries, but they are deemed not life threatening.

Following extensive enquiries, a 22-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on Wednesday morning (February 28), on suspicion of attempted murder and several related incidents. He remains in police custody for questioning.

"While we have made an arrest, we are still appealing to anyone who might have seen this incident take place. We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the time leading up to, or after, the incident," said Detective Inspector Bianca Broadbent, who is leading the investigation from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit.

"Police also received reports of two further incidents - one of vehicle tyres being slashed in the Little Gannett and Great Gannett area on Monday, and one of criminal damage and threats made today in Moors Walk, and we think these may be linked. If you witnessed either of these incidents please get in touch.

"If you were in the areas at the time and have dash cam footage, doorbell cameras, or CCTV at home, please contact us as you may have recorded some crucial information to assist our investigation."

Chief Inspector for Welwyn Hatfield, Pete Frost, added: "We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has assisted police so far with this enquiry and want to reiterate that detectives and neighbourhood officers continue to work around the clock to provide reassurance and piece together information being passed to us.

"We would encourage anyone with further information and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to please report it as it may be vital to the investigation."
