Solicitors will waive their fees this March to write your will, in return for a donation to Isabel Hospice.

Isabel Hospice, a local charity that for over 40 years has been dedicated to providing free palliative care to patients and families in eastern Hertfordshire, has announced the launch of a new campaign named Make a Will Month.

The initiative, running from March 1 to March 31, 2024, aims to highlight the importance of making a will and encourage members of the  community to create or update their wills while supporting a worthy cause.

During Make a Will Month, multiple local solicitors and will writers will generously waive their fees to assist individuals in writing basic or mirror basic wills.

Instead of charging their usual rates, these legal professionals will accept donations to Isabel Hospice, ensuring that the funds raised directly contribute to sustaining the hospice's essential care services.

The suggested donations are £120 for a basic will or £175 for a pair of mirrored wills.

Conor Williams, senior individual giving officer at Isabel Hospice, said: "We are incredibly grateful to all the solicitors and will writers who are donating their time and expertise for free during Make a Will Month.

"Their support, along with the donations given by those having their wills written, will enable us to continue providing vital care and support to patients and families in eastern Hertfordshire.

“It's crucial to highlight the importance of having a will, especially considering that alarmingly 60 per cent of adults in the UK do not yet have one written.

"If you don’t have a will, everything you own will be shared out in a standard way defined by law – which may not be the way you want."

The Make a Will scheme has had a significant impact to date, having raised over £150,000 throughout the years to support Isabel Hospice's vital care services.

By participating in the forthcoming Make a Will Month, community members can not only ensure their affairs are in order but also make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing life-limiting illnesses.

To have your will written, simply contact one the participating legal professionals and quote the 'Isabel Hospice Make a Will scheme'.

There are limited appointments available with each firm so be sure to book fast to avoid disappointment.

About Isabel Hospice

Isabel Hospice has been providing free palliative care to its patients and their families since 1982.

It provides support and care to people in eastern Hertfordshire who are affected by life-limiting illnesses through its Hospice at Home, In-Patient Unit, Community Team, Living Well with Isabel programme and its Family and Bereavement support service.

Isabel’s clinical teams work closely with other healthcare providers in the area, including care homes, hospitals and GP surgeries, improving access to services and sharing knowledge and expertise.

Isabel’s services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning £7 million must be raised each year to guarantee the future of care for Eastern Hertfordshire.
