A day nursery in Welwyn Garden City has celebrated International Lego Day with fun-filled and creative activities.

Rowan Tree Day Nursery set up special creation stations throughout the classroom, allowing children to talk through their design ideas and draw up blueprints, before letting imaginations run wild with their creations.

There was plenty of creativity on show, with pupils creating crocodiles, telescopes, dragons and flying machines, as well as working together to build a huge ten pin bowling alley structure.

"Our children had a fantastic time celebrating International Lego Day and were so engaged and inspired when channelling their inner architects," said Rowan Tree Day Nursery manager, Claire Ovenden.

"Lego not only sparks creativity, but also encourages problem-solving, teamworking and fine motor skills.

"It’s incredible to see how these bricks can empower our children to think outside the box and bring their ideas to life."

International Lego Day is celebrated every year on January 28, to mark the exact date that Lego managing director Godtfred Kirk Christiansen filed the original patent for the construction toy back in 1958.

Lego has continued to thrive in a struggling toy market, with more than 220 million sets sold worldwide every year.
