A pub landlady must pay more than £16,000 in fines and court costs after charges were brought against her by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council relating to noise nuisance.

Deborah Davis, 59, of The Coach and Horses in Newgate Street, appeared at St Albans Magistrates Court on December 19, charged with four counts of failing impose by an abatement notice under section 80(1) of the Environmental Protection Act.

Davis was found guilty and fined £2,400, ordered to pay £960 to victim services, and £15,884.47 for the council's court costs.

The Coach and Horses pub in Newgate Street village was handed Abatement Notices by the council in July of 2021.

A spokesperson for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said: “The council brought a prosecution of four charges relating to noise nuisance against Ms Davis, of the Coach & Horses pub in Newgate Street Village. This was in response to repeated failures to comply with an Abatement Notice issued by the council in July 2021.

“Ms Davis attended St Albans Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty to all four charges but was convicted on all four counts.

"The court imposed a fine on Ms Davis of £600 on each count (totalling £2,400), imposed a victim surcharge of £960 and ordered Ms Davis to pay the councils costs of nearly £16,000.”
