Families and colleagues from Rowan Tree Day Nursery in Welwyn Garden City donated much-needed items to a food bank over Christmas.

Parents and staff from the Guessens Road nursery donated non-perishable food items, hygiene products and household cleaning items to the New Zion Christian Fellowship Foodbank.

Staff decided to scrap their annual Secret Santa, instead donating the money they would have spent to help those in need.

Throughout 2023, Rowan Tree have also been supporting The Trussell Trust in their mission to end food poverty.

In total, they have donated more than 300kg in food and personal care items, as well as 90 Easter eggs and more than 100 Advent calendars.

Speaking ahead of the donation, Rowan Tree business administrator Rebecca Hibbert said: "Christmas brings smiles and excitement to many families.

"However, it can also be a very difficult and stressful time for those less fortunate.

"Rowan Tree staff and families have been working hard all year to support our chosen charity, The Trussell Trust, by raising much needed funds and making regular contributions to our community food bank, and we are so grateful for all the support we’ve had in doing so."

The Trussell Trust, which was founded in 1997, supports more than 1,200 food bank centres across the UK, providing emergency food and support to people living in poverty.
