Tim Gabriel and James Storer, who both work at Waitrose in Welwyn Garden City, played pool for 24-hours to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The pair played 175 games at The Hurricane Club in St Albans over the course of their challenge, which started at 12noon last Tuesday.

Mr Gabriel, of Maple Grove, said so far they had raised about £400 but there was more money to be collected.

The 23-year-old said: “It was really good, it was a lot harder than we both thought it would be.

“We got the snooker table time donated for free so it was nice to be able to keep all the sponsorship money for the charity.”

The duo decided to organise the fundraiser and give the money to Marie Curie after a friend’s sister died several years ago.

Before she passed away she was looked after by the nurses from the charity organisation.
