A steam train is set to pass through Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar tomorrow (Saturday, December 9).

The Lincoln Christmas Express service, run by The Railway Touring Company, is heading from London King's Cross up to Lincoln and back again.

Passengers will be hauled by the Black 5 No. 44871 locomotive, built by the London Midland and Scottish railway in 1945. It was one of the last steam locomotives to be used by British Railways, and was withdrawn in August 1968.

Tomorrow, it will leave London King's Cross shortly before 9am, and pass through Finsbury Park before stopping at Potters Bar at 9.22am.

It will then pass through Welwyn Garden City at around 9.37am before stopping to pick up more passengers at Stevenage.

The train will pass through Hitchin before continuing its northwards journey on the East Coast Main Line towards Lincoln, where it will arrive at 12.44pm.

On the return journey, it will leave Lincoln at 3.48pm, stopping at Stevenage at 7.09pm and Potters Bar at 7.30pm before reaching London King's Cross shortly after 8pm.

Standard class return fares for the journey cost £115 per adult, while First and Premier fares cost £195 and £295 respectively.
