A Welwyn Garden City man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including weapon possession and assaulting a police officer.

Officers from Operation Scorpion, who were conducting Op Guardian patrols, spotted a man acting suspiciously in Elliot Close at around 6.30am.

A 37-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, going equipped, assaulting a police officer, possession of a knife, and possession of an offensive weapon

The man is in custody at this time.

"Officers were conducting patrols as part of Op Guardian which aims to prevent and tackle burglaries," said Chief Inspector Kash Hussain. 

"As part of their patrols they also targeted locations that are hotspots for thefts from vehicles.

"I hope residents are reassured to hear that we were proactively out in the area looking to make arrests and keep you safe.
