Five new call handlers are ready to take your emergency calls at Herts police headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.

Hertfordshire Constabulary welcomed the new recruits who have successfully completed six weeks of intensive training and now join the Force Communications Room (FCR).

The latest cohort join a busy team answering 999 emergency calls and 101 non-emergency calls, webchat and online reports 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The group comprises of two ex-retail workers, a barber, delivery driver, and a district manager for a charity care company.

On Thursday, November 2, friends and family attended a graduation ceremony at police headquarters at Stanborough, WGC, to celebrate their achievements with Scott Hague, FCR Digital and Innovation Manager, offering his congratulations.

He said: “I have so much respect for all of you as you embark on your new adventure in the FCR.

"You will be the first point of contact when someone calls 999 in an emergency and needs help.

"You are the calm and collected voice on the other end of the line who will provide initial advice and keep people safe until officers arrive at the scene.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is currently recruiting for more communications operators with applications shortlisted on a weekly basis.

Call handlers work flexibly, including weekends, and evenings/nights, to answer emergency and non-emergency calls and direct resources across the county.

The starting salary is £32,772 inclusive of shift allowance, if you work full-time.
