Two teenagers have been arrested after police busted a drug deal in Welwyn Garden City.

At around 1pm on Friday, October 13, Operation Scorpion officers were conducting proactive patrols when they spotted a suspected drug deal in Boundary Lane.

The two suspects fled the scene, and following a foot chase by police they were detained for a search.

This resulted in the seizure of a small amount of cannabis, a quantity of cash and a mobile phone. Deal bags and scales were also found discarded nearby and seized.

A 17-year-old boy from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

Another 17-year-old boy from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

As part of further enquiries, officers searched a property in the town and this resulted in the seizure of over 180g of cannabis, a Red Bull can containing multiple individual bags of suspected class A drugs, counterfeit money, scales and deal bags.

"We hope this news gives residents peace of mind that we are always working to disrupt the local drug supply," said Inspector Amy Sheldon, from the Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team.

"Those arrested have now been bailed whilst our detectives carry out further investigation.
