Another bank holiday weekend is approaching and here's some suggestions of things to do and places to go in Hertfordshire this August.

Whether it's music, food and drink, open-air theatre or classic cars, there's something on offer for most tastes.

There's even a dedicated 'Dog Day' this weekend!

So if you're looking for what's on in Hertfordshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend, here's some events being held in the county this week.

 

1. Classic Motor Show, Knebworth

All roads lead to Knebworth Park for classic car enthuiasts this August Bank Holiday.

The Classic Motor Show returns to the grounds of Knebworth House on Sunday, August 27 and Bank Holiday Monday, August 28.

There will be static vehicle displays, as well as a show arena hosting talks and competitions in Knebworth Park. 

 

2. Goatfest Live Music Festival, Codicote

Music lovers should head to Codicote with the Hertfordshire village once again hosting live music festival Goatfest.

The annual music festival kicks off on Friday, August 25 and runs until Sunday, August 27.

Among the acts set to perform over the weekend are Heather Small, the voice of M People, Lemar, Bernhoft in a UK festival exclusive, Megan McKenna, The Overtones, Deco, Uncle Funk's Disco Inferno, the London Rock Collective, and Finley Quaye. 

New for this year is the Secret Snug Stage - which you'll have to find on site on Saturday and Sunday.

3. Benington Chilli Festival

Worship the pepper at the annual Benington Chilli Festival, which returns to the Hertfordshire countryside over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Held at Benington Lordship, the festival celebrates all things chilli.

There will be chilli plants to buy, food and drink to enjoy, and the festival's now famous chilli eating competition. Are you brave enough to enter?

The 2023 Benington Chilli Festival will be held on Saturday, August 26, Sunday, August 27, and Bank Holiday Monday, August 28 from 10am to 5pm.

4. Roman Theatre Festival 2023, St Albans

This open-air festival continues at the Roman Theatre of Verulamium in St Albans until September 6.

Organised by theatre company OVO, you can see Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, produced by The Shakespeare Circus, on August 27 with performances at 2.30pm and 6pm.

On August Bank Holiday Monday, The Pantaloons will bring William Shakespeare farce The Comedy of Errors to the outdoor venue at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

5. Folk Around the Tree, Baldock

Baldock Folk Club organisers and pub landlord Rob Scahill are running their third 'Folk Around the Tree' event on Sunday, August 27.

The all-day music fundraising event will run from 1.30pm until closing time at The Orange Tree pub in Norton Road, Baldock.

There will be over eight acts headed by rousing local Irish ballad band Skimmington Ride, who will play in the pub from 8.15pm till late.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of folk, roots, blues, Flamenco, country and Irish traditional music from some very talented musicians all donating their services without charge.

Proceeds from the day will got to the Hertfordshire MND Association.

 

6. Bullfest, Watton

The Bull in Watton-at-Stone is hosting its first Bullfest on Saturday, August 26.

Think village fete meets music festival as the High Street venue will host an array of stalls from local suppliers, including personalised gifts, hand-knitted clothes, children’s toys and much more, followed by entertainment from some incredible local artists.

Live music will come from the likes of Godfin and Lawrence Hill, while there will also be a hog roast and children's activities.

Free entry and Bullfest starts at 2pm.

 

7. St Albans Dog Day

Tails will be wagging across St Albans this weekend, as the cathedral city hosts its inaugural ‘Dog Day’.

The event will mark International Dog Day on Saturday, August 26, and will include free biscuits, complimentary beds, and a range of activities for hounds to enjoy.

Free ‘puppocinos’ will be available, along with ‘pup-arazzi’ selfie boards for owners and pets to try.

A dog-themed market will be situated near St Albans Clock Tower, and workshops will take place throughout the day.

With over 100 dog-friendly businesses, there’s lots to do in the city centre with your pups.

Vivien Cannon, St Albans BID manager, said: “With more dog owners in the UK than ever before, we want to showcase all that St Albans has to offer as a great destination for dogs."

There's also a chance to win tickets to DogFest at Knebworth House on September 9 or September 10.
