Emergency services have been called to the scene of a “multi-vehicle-crash” in Hertfordshire.

Two of the three southbound lanes between Junctions 4 and 2 of the A1M, near Hatfield Tunnel, have been closed this morning (August 1).

The closure is currently causing “severe” 40-minute delays against expected traffic, according to National Highways, and there are approximately 4 miles of congestion on approach to the scene.Lanes 1 and 2 remain closed for recovery and clear up works, as of 8.30am, after the “multi-vehicle collision”.

The BBC is reporting that three vehicles were involved.

The closure is expected to be cleared by 9.30am and normal traffic is expected by 10.30am.

National Highways advised motorists to check their route before travelling this morning.

The lane closures were first confirmed by the government-owned highways agency at 7.31am, when there were around 25 minutes of delays.
