Organisations have been invited to join the BIG Summer events programme in Welwyn Hatfield.

BIG Summer takes place from Monday, July 24 to Sunday, August 13, and the council is keen to hear from organisations across the borough who want to showcase their work, promote their cause, or engage with the community.

Event ideas that fit with the theme of arts and culture, sports and fitness, music and entertainment, or community and charity are encouraged.

Now in its seventh year, BIG Summer saw over 90 activities and more than 1,000 children take part over three weeks in 2022, and this year is set to be bigger and better than ever.

It offers an opportunity for local organisations to reach a wide audience, raise awareness, and provide some activities for children and young people in a fun and sociable environment.

Some of the events that are already planned include paddleboarding and kayaking at Stanborough Lakes, graffiti art workshops in the marketplace, Hatfield, and dance masterclasses and pump traxx in Welwyn Garden City town centre.

Cllr Max Holloway, executive member, leisure and community, said: “BIG Summer 2023 is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and support all the amazing activities our community has to offer.

"We’re looking for local organisations that want to join us and help make this summer unforgettable for children and families across Welwyn Hatfield. Whether you have an event idea of your own or want to join one of our planned events, we'd love to hear from you.”

Anthony Parris, Youth Worker at One YMCA - which runs youth projects in Welwyn Hatfield - said: “In past years, we’ve supported many of the BIG Summer activities. It’s great for us, as we run projects right through the summer and this helps to raise our profile and connect with a bigger audience.

"Being involved opens a lot more opportunities not only for young people but for us to collaborate with other professionals.

"BIG Summer is a great opportunity for everyone involved and we encourage you to join us!”
