A Digswell primary school has maintained its "good" Ofsted rating following an inspection in April.

St John’s Church of England Primary School received praise for providing pupils with "rich and varied opportunities outside of lessons," while the inspector noted that students "aim to reach the high expectations that staff have for them."

"There was also praise for school leaders, including a dedicated teaching staff, with the report noting "leaders are ambitious for all pupils and, as a result, pupils with special educational needs and disabilities receive the support they need and achieve well."

The report concluded that children "enjoy attending St John’s, behave well, have positive attitudes towards learning and feel safe at school."

St John's headteacher, Simon Horleston, who has led the school through two inspections since 2017, was happy with result and praise the Digswell community for their support.

"We are pleased that this report captures some of the great work that is being accomplished which makes our school an excellent place for pupils to learn and to grow," he said.

"It takes a whole village to raise a child and everyone within the St John’s team and community can be proud of the part that they have contributed."

The chair of governors, Nick Johnson, added: "We were pleased to hear the inspector stress the positive environment he encountered in the school and the praise given to the well-rounded curriculum offered alongside the personal development of our pupils.

"I would like to thank all the staff, pupils, parents and governors for their continued support and dedication to the school."
