A mother-of-two with a "severely disabled daughter" is at her "wits end" after waiting for the council to repair a leak her home has endured for almost eight years.

Suzanne Nika lives in a flat in Barndicott, Welwyn Garden City, with her two children, and has dealt with a leak in her bathroom since she moved in.

According to Suzanne, every time it rains, the leak comes from the roof of the flat through the pull cord of her bathroom light. Depending on how heavily it has rained, the leak comes through her bedroom door as well.

She said: "Over the years I've called the council about 60 or 70 times, and they send surveyors and contractors, and my scaffolding has been erected five times - but all of them say that the leak isn't from the roof, and they can't figure out where it is coming from.

"They just say that they are stumped."

Suzanne has said she is "frustrated", as she has a daughter with disabilities, but "constantly chasing the council" takes away the time she requires to care for her daughter.

Suzanne added: "We get a lot of mould in the property and my daughter is recovering from sepsis - a life-threatening reaction to an infection - and mould spores can get on your chest, so I'm worried that this is affecting her even more.

"She needs my time and when I am on my phone trying to get the council to sort it out, I can't be there for her."

A spokesperson for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said: "Our contractors visited the property last Thursday (May 11) and will be returning again on Thursday, May 18, to investigate further to determine the cause of the leak.

"We are in touch with Ms Nika and her daughter to provide reassurance that we are looking into this."

Suzanne added: "I've lived here for so long and I thought if I gave them a chance, they would actually sort it out.

"It is really stressful, and this should have been sorted years ago instead of sending the same people to give me the same answers."
