The invaluable contribution that 66 long-serving volunteers have made to the work of Isabel Hospice over more than three decades has been celebrated.

Between them, the group have dedicated a total of 680 years’ service to supporting the Welwyn Garden City-based charity, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people living across eastern Hertfordshire.

Long service awards ranging from five to 35 years were presented by the Hospice’s CEO, Helen Glenister, at a special ‘Together We Volunteer’ spring celebration event for all Isabel volunteers held at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City on April 20.

Among those recognised was Bishop’s Stortford volunteer, fundraiser and ambassador Renée Friend, and bereavement support volunteer Deidre Bastable, from Hertford, who have been volunteering for 35 and 30 years respectively.

Helen said: “We are incredibly proud of Renée and Deidre - and all of our volunteers - for all the big and small ways they help to make our caring work possible, allowing us to continue providing our vital care and support for our patients, and their loved ones.

"Without them, we simply couldn’t do all that we do and we are incredibly grateful to each and every one of them for helping to make a difference to the lives of the people we care for, helping to ensure that no-one has to face one of life’s most difficult journeys alone.”
