Ukrainian Easter traditions were celebrated over the weekend with a series of workshops at Welwyn Garden City's Howard Centre.
In Ukraine, Easter is observed through the creation of Easter eggs (pysanka), delicious pastries and family gatherings.
The 'pysanky' eggs have been part of Ukrainian Easter traditions since the pre-Christian era.
On Saturday, The Howard Centre hosted a Ukrainian pysanka workshop for adult participants, and a decoupage workshop for children.
More than 40 people created their own unique Easter eggs with wax and paints. Pysanka uses a method of wax-resist dyeing, using a tool similar to a canting to apply hot wax to the eggshell, which is then placed in a series of dye baths.
The children, meanwhile, decorated wooden eggs using the decoupage technique.
A giant egg-painting event was held on Sunday, and representatives of the Ukrainian community and residents painted 60-centimetre eggs.

At the end of the activity, two winners were chosen: the Lesko family and the Buchko family together with their friend Zhanna. Each participant also received a gift.
The Welwyn Garden City Ukrainian community thanked Cllr Michal Siewniak for his support and help, as well as Herts County Council, the Howard Centre and Cllr Paul Zukowskyj for grant funding.
