Theatre audiences will be travelling over the rainbow and off to see the Wizard in Potters Bar.

As filming of the movie version of musical Wicked takes place at Sky Studios Elstree in Hertfordshire, Potters Bar Theatre Company (PBTC) performers bring their production of The Wizard of Oz to the Wyllyotts Theatre from Tuesday, April 11 to Saturday, April 15.

This classic musical finds brave Dorothy and her faithful dog Toto trying to get back home to her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry in Kansas, following a tornado which has swept her house over the rainbow.

Dorothy unexpectedly lands in the magical land of Oz. On her adventure to get back home she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion - and with the magical ruby slippers on her feet tries to escape the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the East.

As Dorothy goes on her journey down the Yellow Brick Road she is watched over by the good witch Glinda, and helped along the way by the Munchkins. She also meets the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz.

This beloved musical based on the famous 1939 film has entertained generations with classic songs including Over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and We’re Off to See the Wizard.

A PBTC spokesperson said: "It is sure to please and is a great option for some family entertainment over the Easter holidays."

The Potters Bar cast is led by Lilli Nash as Dorothy, who travels to meet with the Wizard, hoping he can help her get home.

The Scarecrow wishing for a brain is played by Jess Robinson, Karl Puranik is the Tin Man who hopes for a heart, and Charlie Rowley stars as the Cowardly Lion hoping for some bravery.

They sing and dance there way along the Yellow Brick Road supported by the chorus, which includes some talented Munchkins - the fabulous children in the production.

"We hope that you can come and join us as we dance and sing our way through Oz," added a company spokesperson.

Evening performances start at 7.30pm, and there's a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday, April 15.

At the end of the performances on Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12 children from the audience can meet Dorothy and the main characters in the foyer at Wyllyotts Theatre.
