Isabel Hospice is once again teaming up with the Dutch Marketplace in Brookmans Park for a series of donation days.

These will help boost donations to the Welwyn Garden City-based charity’s shops this spring.

The first monthly event of 2023 is being held at the garden centre, in Great North Road, on Monday, March 20.

People are encouraged to bring along their good quality clothing, accessories, homewares, vintage items and collectables between 10am and 2pm.

Future dates are planned for Monday, April 17 and Monday, May 15.

Isabel Hospice relies on donations of preloved items from the public to help fund its specialist palliative and end-of-life care for those living in Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and across eastern Hertfordshire.

Dutch Marketplace is a regular supporter of the Hospice through its Tonnes of Care initiative, with almost 500 bags of unwanted and unused items handed over at previous donation days.

Isabel’s head of retail Charlotte Greenwood said: “Dutch Marketplace has been a great Tonnes of Care partner for us.

"Over just three donation days, they have given us 486 bags, which will help pay for almost 200 hours of vital end-of-life care for our patients. It also means they have saved four tonnes of items from needlessly going into landfill.

Charlotte added: “We are so pleased Dutch Marketplace are increasing their donation days to a monthly event as this will really help fulfil our pledge to save 25,000 tonnes from landfill by 2027.

"We ask the local community to really get behind these donation days and bring along their good quality clothing and accessories, homeware, small electricals and vintage items so everyone can play their part in turning unwanted items into nursing hours and promote sustainable shopping.”

In January, Tonnes of Care, which was launched by the Hospice on Earth Day 2022, scooped the Green Initiative Award at the Heart Hertfordshire Hero Awards 2023.

The award recognises those whose environmental efforts are making a difference towards a greener future.
