A Welwyn Garden City company has constructed three pods for firefighters to train in fighting fires.

Evacstac created these pods at Megatron Steels in Southfield, Welwyn Garden City, for the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh.

These pods make up a seven-storey tower that will be installed by Evacstac for firefighters in the UK and across the world to use in training.

The cost-effective high-rise tower escape system has the ability to provide residents in single staircase high-rise towers an alternative means of escape or safe refuge for the less able.

With an inbuilt water supply at regulation pressures and provision of sprinkler feeds at every level, EvacStac could provide first responders with an additional facility to enter high rise buildings and tackle fires more quickly without impeding the evacuation of residents.

A spokesperson from EvacStac said: "The Fire Service College, part of Capita PLC, is delighted to announce that it is looking forward to the installation of EvacStac at the Fire Service College."

Dominik Wellmann, managing director at the FSC, said: "Installing EvacStac will allow the Fire Service College to train firefighters at the FSC in High Rise Firefighting tactics and help to guide policy in fighting fires where the system has been installed.

"We're excited to work with the wider team to bring this to realisation."

The first three pods have been lifted by crane onto three low loaders and will travel in convoy along with their escort vehicles from Welwyn Garden City to Moreton-in-Marsh.

Installation of the tower itself is due to commence in April 2023 at the FSC, but the first three pods left Welwyn Garden City last week.

Two more pods will be leaving Welwyn Garden City this week, and the final two pods the week after.
