A concert is set to be held in Welwyn in order to raise funds for St Mary's Church and Ukraine.

The concert has been organised by Stephen Foster, who puts together shows that offer opportunities to young students and professional musicians.

The concerts in March will be dedicated to Ukraine and will feature Ukrainian songs followed by a reading of A Shropshire Lad - a collection of poems by the English poet Alfred Edward Housman, published in 1896 which highlights the loss and futility of war.

It will be held at St Mary’s Church in Welwyn on Saturday, March 11 at midday.

One of the performers on the day is singer Alla Kravchuk-Alban, an internationally acclaimed soprano born in Ukraine.

Another performer, Oksana Germanchuk, is a piano player who came to the UK recently as a refugee to flee the war in Ukraine.

The third performer will be Robert Milner, who is the Director of Music at St Mary’s and performs regularly with the Mosaic chamber choir of St Albans.

Robert said: “It will be a lovely hour of music in aid of a great cause, and it would be lovely to see a full church so we can raise as much money as possible.”

The concert will have free entry and donations for both causes can be made on the day.
