A Hatfield couple used a day that is all about them to give back to the community and help people in need.

Tim and Laura Bechervaise got married three weeks ago, and decided to forego wedding gifts they would have received on the day - and instead asked their guests to donate money to Hatfield Foodbank and Open Doors.

Laura, a clergy at a local church, said: "We are constantly looking at how we can react to the cost-of living-crisis.

"Hearing some of the statistics on how many people are using the foodbank and how many people rely on it and are unable to feed their kids, I just found it really heartbreaking.

"When we got engaged, I told Tim I would would just love to use this opportunity to give back.

"People are really generous around weddings so we wanted to channel that towards some good in our community."

So far the couple has raised £325 for Hatfield Foodbank and £260 for Open Doors.

The couple, who are in their mid-30s, said: "We already have a fully furnished home and there's lots of stuff we didn't need, and there are so many people on our doorstep that are struggling to get food or money for heating, so that formed a part of our reasoning."
