One lane is closed on the M25 near Potters Bar following a crash and fuel spillage this morning, with delays and congestion expected.

At 10.35am, National Highways confirmed that one lane was closed on the M25 anti-clockwise between Junction 23 for Potters Bar and Junction 24 for the A1(M).

"Lane one is CLOSED on the M25 anti-clockwise between J24 Potters Bar and J23 A1M to recover a vehicle involved in an earlier collision," read a tweet.

"Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as delays are beginning to build."

Despite a recovery of the vehicle and a clear-up taking place, the lane remains closed for "emergency resurfacing repairs".

In an update at, Highways confirmed delays as people looked to get home for the weekend, saying: "REMINDER - Lane one remains CLOSED on the #M25 anti-clockwise between J24 Potters Bar and J23 A1(M) for emergency resurfacing repairs.

"Delays of approximately 20 minutes above normal, with three-miles of congestion on the approach."
