A Welwyn Garden City dog owner is in need of financial aid after his dog was attacked and left with serious injuries, costing thousands in vet bills.

Molly, an eight-year-old brown cocker spaniel, was attacked during her evening walk by a "pitbull/Staffie type dog" on Saturday, December 10.

Molly's owner, Radoslav Petrov, kicked the dog away several times but did not manage to get the it to stop.

The person in charge of the other dog managed to separate them after a few attempts.

Radoslav said: “The animal was running without control and, completely unprovoked, bit mine at the lower soft area of the stomach.

“Despite my efforts to separate Molly and her attacker, she suffered serious wounds and lost a lot of blood. I performed basic first aid with a piece of my T-shirt to stop the bleeding, followed by few bandages.”

With the help of a neighbour, Radoslav managed to get Molly to the Royal Veterinary College.  Welwyn Hatfield Times: Molly at the vet's with her multiple serious injuries. Molly at the vet's with her multiple serious injuries. (Image: Radoslav Petrov)

Her wounds were flushed and clipped during her stay in the hospital, and she was discharged five days later.

Radoslav continued: “Molly’s main wound around her stomach started to tear again and she had to go back to her usual vets for wound revision surgery, during which a lot of dead skin was removed.

"Two days later the wound started to open again, and I had to take her back to the vet. She got referred immediately back to Royal Veterinary College where she currently is."

Over £3,000 has been paid for treatments, but Radoslav still requires another £6,000 for Molly's care and stay at the Royal Veterinary College. Welwyn Hatfield Times: Injuries to Molly's stomach that costs thousands in vet bills.Injuries to Molly's stomach that costs thousands in vet bills. He continued: “In normal circumstances I would be embarrassed to beg for money, but now I have to save her, so I created GoFundMe campaign to cover the costly vet bills.

"If you are willing to help regardless of how much it is, I can assure you that it will be much appreciated.

“I am trying to do absolutely everything I can save the dog. I am thankful that my daughter and wife wasn't with me during the incident.

"Molly is my two-year-old daughter’s best friend and now my wife is afraid to go out as the other dog is still out there.” Welwyn Hatfield Times: Molly's wound on Christmas Day which will be closed up today.Molly's wound on Christmas Day which will be closed up today. (Image: Radoslav Petrov)

Today, (Tuesday, December 27) Molly’s wound will be shut and Radoslav will know more about her condition.

A spokesperson from Hertfordshire Constubulary said: "Police were called on Saturday, December 10 to report that at around 9.45pm that day, a dog had been bitten by another dog in Bessemer Road, Welwyn Garden City.

"At this time, no criminal offences have been recorded, but officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team have been made aware."
