A brain tumour survivor from Potters Bar will be honoured at a red carpet event to raise money for vital research.

The event, which was organised by Tara Carmen in aid of the Officially Lisa Connell Fundraising Group for Brain Tumour Research, will be held at the Faces nightclub in Gants Hill from 9pm to 2.30am on Friday, December 9.

Hosted by Real Kid Bouji and TV Presenter, Andy Franklin, the event was inspired by brain tumour survivors Lisa Connell and Rian Llett.

Lisa Connell lives in Potters Bar with her daughter and was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumour at 26, after falling pregnant - and sadly lost the baby.

She underwent gamma knife surgery and, some years later, surgery and radiotherapy when the tumour was found to be growing. Lisa now lives with regular painful facial spasms and an uncertain future.

The cast and crew of award-winning film ‘Legacy’ will be walking the red-carpet event along with a lineup of DJs, such as DJ Hotsteppa, Scott Garcia, Faze 2 Music and many more.

Tara wanted this event to be a platform to champion the fight to influence those who attend (and beyond) to be more aware of brain tumours and the important need to raise funds for research.  Welwyn Hatfield Times: The line-up of the Officially Lisa Connell Fundraising Group Christmas Red Carpet Event. The line-up of the Officially Lisa Connell Fundraising Group Christmas Red Carpet Event. Rian, a former Royal Marines Commando who served for 15 years and was deployed on seven operational tours including Iraq and Afghanistan, is unable to attend the event.

While deployed, Rian and comrades were hit with an anti-tank missile and flown back to the UK.

In 2019 after being scanned following the explosion doctors discovered a mass on his brain, which was later diagnosed as an aggressive Stage 4 glioblastoma. He was given 12-15 months survivability and put in a prolonging life phase.

An intensive nine-month treatment plan followed, whilst he continued to live as normal a life as possible and continued to maintain his fitness.

Following treatment Rian has continued to be monitored and wrote a book about his personal experiences; “Every Day Is a Battle – Fighting Jihadists and a Brain Tumour” and is currently in month 44 since diagnosis.
