Strike action by Potters Bar bus workers that was meant to occur this December has been called off.

Previously, Metroline workers, who are part of the Unite union, stated that 2,000 workers would walk out across the UK over a pay dispute after "unforgivable” pay rates were offered by the company.

Strike action was supposed to commence on Thursday, December 1, but after an action of good faith, Unite has forfeited the strike action in order to ballot its members.

Metroline made an improved pay offer after discussions held by the conciliation service Acas.

Unite regional officer Laura Johnson said: "Following last minute talks at Acas, the strikes scheduled for (Thursday, December 1), have been suspended to allow our members to be balloted on the new offer."

If the workers reject the latest offer then the remaining strikes scheduled for Thursday, December 8, 9, 15 and 16 will go ahead as planned.

Originally, the strike was set to take place on 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 15 and 16 of December.

The union added that the separate strike action involving bus drivers employed by Abellio in South and West London will go ahead as planned.
