Former Digswell Arts Trust board member and acclaimed sculptor, Hugh Tessier, is showcasing work in a new exhibition.

The 'INSIDE/OUTSIDE' exhibition celebrates the new arts focus for local charity Turn The Tide and features a selection of Hugh’s latest work including sculpture and lighting.

Hugh is showcasing sculptures alongside work by local artists Maria Fekete (mural and drawing), Max (miniature sculpture), John O’Mahoney (sculpture) and Stella Ray Moody (collage).

Hugh said of the show: “Come and see all sorts of curious objects made from found materials created for your delight to grace your garden or nest by your settee.”

The show - at Turn The Tide’s Stevenage workshop - invites visitors to bid on Hugh’s sculptures and take them home for a small donation to the charity.

Pieces that receive more than one bid will go into a random draw to decide the lucky winner.

Welwyn Hatfield Times:

Turn The Tide Arts is a registered UK charity providing free arts opportunities to people in Stevenage and the surrounding areas.

The charity’s work explores how everyone can make imaginative art from materials in and around their homes.

Working on discarded, found or special keepsakes from the past we can all enjoy making and creating.

Former Stevenage Mayor Hugh said: “The arts have a vital role in our society to enrich us, to play, to laugh and sing. Art should not be an exclusive luxury for the wealthy but for everyone.”

Visitors to the show can also find out about Have A Go, where local people can work with Hugh (free of charge) in the charity’s workshop to make something creative and unique to them.

Hugh’s public work includes large sculptures for Stansted Airport, with environmental artist Diane Maclean, for Luton Council and for Wolverhampton City.

His private work spans sculpture, lighting, jewellery and furniture for people, homes and gardens across the country.

The new exhibition will be a rare opportunity to own a piece of original art by Hugh by making a donation to the charity. Hugh is literally giving away his work.

All donations will go to Turn The Tide to help fund its future. To find out more see @hughtessierart or www.turnthetidearts.co.uk
