An art exhibition featuring contributions from Welwyn Hatfield primary school pupils, marking Black History Month, will open next week.

Hosted by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, the work will be on display at Mill Green Museum and Mill on Wednesday, October 26, from 11am to 2pm.

The council has worked with primary schools this month to make creative contributions such as art, poetry, short stories and quotes that represent this year’s theme, ‘Time for Change: Action not Words’.

Visitors to the event will be welcomed by Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Cllr Barbara Fitzsimon.

Guest speakers attending include Ashton Attzs, a 24-year-old painter and illustrator, who will discuss their work and experiences, and Gilroy Gregory - a council officer and author of  George, (The Teenage Years).

Mama Cynth’s Jamaican Kitchen will also be serving a delicious Jamaican-style buffet for all.

Council leader Tony Kingsbury said: “We are proud to be supporting Black History Month again, and to celebrate the lives, achievements, and historical contributions of Black people locally, and much further afield.

“The children have sent in some thought-provoking and expressive artwork, and I can’t wait to see it at our special event, which promises to be a fitting celebration of Black culture. This also takes place at half term, so do put the date in your diaries!”
