Samaritans volunteers will mark World Mental Health Day next week with visits to Potters Bar and Hatfield railway stations.

They will visit the two stations to talk about mental health and offer support to anyone who might need it.

Outreach volunteers for the local branch will be there for the morning rush hour on Monday, October 10 – World Mental Health Day.

They are teaming up with coffee shops in both stations to serve drinks in hundreds of Samaritans branded cups telling real people’s stories of mental health crisis.

With suicide rates in England as high as they were 20 years ago, they will also be raising awareness of the charity’s work to reduce the number of people who die by suicide, and how to reach out for emotional support.

Branch director Susannah Fenton said: “Our volunteers are really looking forward to being out and about in the community, providing a listening ear.

“We know how challenging these last few years have been for people and support is needed now more than ever.

"Many people struggle to cope at one point or another in their lives. So, it’s important to recognise that reaching out to someone will help them see that someone cares and that they are valued.

“If you’re worried about someone, just let them know there is always someone they can turn to, whether that’s family, friends or a 24/7 helpline like Samaritans.

"No matter how big or small your problems feel, it is important to remember that you are not alone.”
