A family-run restaurant business is eyeing up the former Parkway Bar premises in Welwyn Garden City town centre.

Three planning proposals have been put to Welwyn Hatfield Council by Isa Demir for the Parkway site, which has been vacant since the end of last year.

Planning applications have been drawn up for new signs, a change of shop front, the installation of an extraction flue at the rear and internal alterations.

The new signs would be for ‘Misya’ and ‘Mezze & Grill’.

Mr Demir and his family already run a Misya Mezze & Grill in Stevenage High Street.

On Misya’s website, the business is described as being family-run and having been established for more than 30 years in the UK.

Food is inspired by Anatolia, the modern part of Turkey, and restaurants are designed to have a cozy, relaxed feel.

Mr Demir told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I think Welwyn Garden City will be a good location for a Turkish restaurant.

“We’re busy in our Stevenage restaurant and most of the staff are my family members.

“If we open in Welwyn Garden City, 80% of staff will be my family members.

“We like to open in towns which haven’t got a Turkish restaurant so that we can be the first.”
