LIB Dem parliamentary hopeful Paul Zukowskyj has added his weight to criticism of the East of England Plan, which stipulates Welwyn Hatfield must provide at least 10,000 new homes by 2021.
He said: "The main problem with all of this is the Government has insisted, through its top-down changes to the East of England Plan, on a larger number of houses than can physically be built without paving over significant amounts of Green Belt.
"On top of this the Government is failing to provide any additional roads, railways, hospitals or schools, abandoning local residents to pay the price."
He added: "The Government needs its head examining, our infrastructure is already at breaking point, and this development will break it completely.
