A TERMINALLY-ILL man is to be given a drug that could extend his life.
Ken Cole, who has myeloma, a rare type of bone marrow cancer, has been in a race against time with the East and North Hertfordshire PCT.
The health body was refusing to supply him the drug Velcade due to a technical loophole.
But on Friday, PCT bosses made a U-turn and decided to allow Mr Cole, of Great Ley, WGC, a course of Revlimid.
Their decision came after a change of National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
The news comes even though this newer drug, which could prolong the 63-year-old's life by seven years, is considerably more expensive.
Daughter Lynette told the WHT "everyone concerned is absolutely delighted".
