A DARING young couple have become only the sixth pair to marry at the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Charli Martin and Arthur Tizard tied the knot on Saturday, having scaled the dizzy 134-metre heights of Australia's iconic landmark.

The couple moved down under last year after 27-year-old Arthur, of Tewin, landed a job as an engineer.

Having met through close friends in 2003 and getting engaged on the bank of the River Thames, they decided they wanted to do something different for their big day.

And in Saturday's bright morning sunshine, they did just that.

The ceremony was conducted on the viewing platform with the bridge guide and photographer acting as witnesses.

Charli, who grew up in Hatfield Garden Village, said: "We were enjoying the climb so much we almost forgot we were actually getting married when we got to the top.

"But as we got higher and took our positions, still harnessed to the wire, it hit us that we had managed to pull off this crazy dream.

"The ceremony and vows were lovely and we both got a bit tearful, but mostly I was laughing as there was an aeroplane and helicopter flying closely above us making lots of noise during our romantic moments!"

The 25-year-old, daughter of BBC Three's Dog Borstal trainer Mic Martin, added: "As we said our vows and kissed we hadn't realised another group had been watching from a distance. They all screamed 'congratulations!' and started clapping."

Once back at ground level the couple headed off to a luxury hotel for celebratory Champagne.

Lunch at a Chinese restaurant and a trip to the Opera House to see A Midsummer Night's Dream followed.

Back at the hotel they found their families had recorded video wedding greeting messages for them.

Charli added: "By the time the day finished we were exhausted, it went so quickly though."

The newly-weds will now enjoy a four-month honeymoon travelling around Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China before returning to the UK in July.
