A VACANCY has arisen for a new Hatfield town councillor, after no-show Tory Paul Smith resigned.
The position representing Hatfield East became vacant after Mr Smith failed to attend meetings for six months.
A by-election will be held if a written request is made by 10 electors by April 6, or else the council will select someone to fill the empty seat.
Mr Smith retains his position representing the same ward on the borough council, despite calls for him to stand down.
A Freedom of Information request by the WHT showed he has failed to attend any borough council meetings since November.
