A MAN died while taking part in the Welwyn Hatfield Rotary Walk.

The fundraiser, believed to be in his 70s and from WGC, died in Sherrardspark Wood, after collapsing at about 12.30pm on Sunday.

Other walkers and a passing cyclist tried to help the man and called 999.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "Ambulance crews and fast response cars from WGC attended.

"Due to the location of the call, the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance was also deployed to assist. A man was found in a critical condition and sadly, after everyone's best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts are firmly with his family at this tragic time."

Gary added: "There was an off-duty nurse and members of the public trying to help the man prior to our arrival and their help was very much appreciated."

Walk organiser John Hopley sent commiserations to the family.
