FORGET the Champions League semi-finals being the highlight of European football over the last few weeks.
For some of the world's best players were actually in Germany, battling for another trophy.
The winners were students from the University of Hertfordshire.
Their triumph came in the Humanoid Simulation League in the Robocup German Open 2009 - a robot version of the European Cup played on a computer.
The Bold Herts team spent hours of work creating graphic robots on a computer programme.
They had to have all the skills necessary to play football and together as a team. A separate programme then matched them up against teams from across the world.
The Hatfield-based university remained unbeaten through the competition in Hanover.
The team comprised of Sander van Dijk, Peter Snow, Vinny Pindoria, Dr Daniel Polani and Steve Hunt.
Next up for the quintet will be the world championships, set to be held in Austria in June.
