ON the eve of the seventh anniversary of the Potters Bar rail crash, MP James Clappison has called on his Commons colleagues to support his call for a public inquiry.
The MP has long campaigned for an official investigation into the disaster, which claimed seven lives and injured a further 76 when a train derailed as it approached the station on May 10, 2002.
Now he has tabled an early day motion (EDM) calling on the Government to finally hold a public inquiry.
EDMs allow MPs to express their opinion on a subject and to canvass support for their views by inviting other members to add their signatures in support of the motion.
Mr Clappison's EDM states the house "expresses its regret that no form of public inquiry has yet taken place despite the clearly expressed wishes of surviving victims and bereaved families for such an inquiry to be held".
This week he told the Potters Bar Edition: "This is one of the longest delays there has ever been in holding an inquiry following a major disaster.
"It is time for the surviving victims and the bereaved families as well as the travelling public to have answers to their questions.
