MOTORISTS who speed along a busy country road between two villages are being targeted in a new police operation.
Officers are stepping up measures to crack down on drivers who flout the speed limit on Codicote Road, between Welwyn and Codicote.
The road carries a 30mph limit, with one 40mph section - although cars regularly zip along at much higher speeds.
Chief inspector Dave Newsome said: "Many motorists drive too fast down Codicote Road and we have received a number of complaints from members of the public, so it has become one of our policing priorities."
He said they have adopted a "two-tiered approach" - increased patrols and use of mobile speed cameras, and the issuing of fines to those caught offending.
In one ANPR operation last month, six motorists were given verbal warnings for driving too fast.
Two cars were also clocked for no insurance, one for no MoT and one driver was fined 60 and given three points for using a mobile phone while at the wheel.
But it's speeding that is the main problem.
