A MOTORIST is fighting for life following a road smash close to Hatfield today.
Emergency services including the Hertfordshire air ambulance were called to a collision on the A1000 Great North Road between a red Citroen Picasso and a white Ford Transit van driver shortly after 11am.
The driver of the Citroen, a man in his 70s, was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford Transit, a 24-year-old man, was taken to the QE2 with minor injuries.
Police are still on the scene, and Great North Road remains closed between Swanley Bar Lane and School Road.
