PARAMEDICS and firefighters carried a stricken woman two miles through woods – after she injured her knee in a freak accident with a dog.

Ambulance crews were called to near Cuffley Camp Outdoor Centre on Carbone Hill, following reports of a women hurting her knee after being knocked over by the mutt while out walking with her husband in Great Wood.

But the woman was too deep into the woods for the ambulance to reach her, so firefighters from Potters Bar were called to help with the rescue.

The woman, a 46-year-old from Welham Green, was carried out of the woods on a stretcher and was finally taken to the QE2 Hospital in WGC with a dislocated knee.

East of England ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “The woman was unfortunate to be struck by a dog while out walking and received an injury to her leg.

“Access to reach her was very difficult and the best route was on foot. Paramedics and firefighters had to carry the lady to an awaiting ambulance over rough terrain for a couple of miles.

“Following stabilisation she was taken to the QE2 Hospital.”
